Great to see a special select Shiraz from 2018.
I was tempted to keep this until 2026as it was recommended to drink now or cellar until 2026. But we opened it, to review now and if great I will maybe buy more – but unfortunately Qantas no longer stocks this, so would need to go to an auction company.
On to the wine, this is a beautiful deep red colour and has a nice bouquet. This is a classic Shiraz, it is smooth and has the sharpness of a Shiraz, with spicy undertones. Is this the best Shiraz we have had, probably not but so tempted to cellar until 2026.

Man with no Palate Review
Initially I thought this was a totally average Shiraz. And to be honest it is. The only thing that slightly separates it is the more you drink it the better it gets. It doesn’t deteriorate like so many others. And I am wondering whether or not we should just have laid this down and waited a few years. Whether that would make any difference, I’m not exactly sure.

Celebrate the highest quality, selected Shiraz grape at Penley. The Traveller commentates the journey from the 1988 ‘green site’ is the journey Penley has undertaken to create a prestige wine company. It represents the winemakers passion for wine and travel.
The Wine – showcasing Coonawarra Shiraz made from stretched rows of hand pruned, low yielding vines on our cottage block, short rows to individually selected barrels, created using submerged cap fermentation. The art of blending these elements into a well balanced wine is a part of the Penley style.
The Style – unique varietal and regional characteristics plus intense, but integrated sac typifies the style. The wine is elegant, restrained but highlighted by complexity.
The Region – originally farmed for Shiraz, Penley chose Coonawarra for its limestone base, terra Rosa soils and climate. Coonawarra Shiraz exhibits characters of cassis, blackberry and spice.
